She said, "I'm Going to Join a Fraternity!"

Dazzling Driftwood congratulations go out to Annette Rodriguez of Hawaii for her correct answer during the Trivia contest on our Dazzle Live show March 17th, 2022. The question was, "What inspired Angel's attraction to shiny things?" Answer, Gold Nuggets! Annette won a beautiful St. Patrick's Day themed 5-strand Dazzle for being the first to chime in with the correct answer. Once per month a trivia game is played during the Live show. The question may be generated from many sources including the Blog, Live shows, Dazzling Driftwood posts, and our website. Join us for all the Dazzling fun Thursday evenings at 7:00pm EST on Facebook Dazzling Driftwood Home Page. FYI, Angel hosts the show for three consecutive weeks and then takes one week off to have more time to focus on the creative aspects of her Dazzling designs.
On with another story of Angel's youth and some of the misadventures that led us to these dazzling times.
Every Spring after the end of season ice skating show, we excitedly loaded up the car for the 1,200 mile journey to Venice, Florida for our two-week getaway. Anytime Angel got in a vehicle on a trip of more than 20 minutes, she would fall asleep in the back seat waking all refreshed and chatting away. On one of our journeys she surprisingly made this statement, "When I go to college I am going to join a Fraternity!" I corrected her by letting her know that a fraternity is for boys and a Sorority is for girls! I was delighted she had plans at only 10 years old to attend college in the future.
As it came to pass, even though Angel missed the pledging process, she was invited to join the sorority on campus that housed Junior Miss winners at Troy State University in Alabama. Her Dad and I thought it would be a good experience, but she was not interested. When asked why she did not want to join Angel explained she did not want to become a carbon copy of the other girls. They all wore expensive clothes and accessorized with obnoxious large bows in their hair.  Overall she found them to be insincere, snooty, and generally not very pleasant young ladies. Once she said, "No Thank you," the other Junior Misses wanted nothing to do with her, therefore the initial assessment was correct and Angel has always felt good about that decision.
The childhood wish to join a fraternity would happen in an unusual way. Angel was invited to a party at the Tae Kappa Epsilon House on campus. Her future husband, David, was clearly Dazzled as he turned to one of his brothers and asked, "Who is that hottie that just walked in?" Only a few months later, our precious Angel was chosen as Fraternity Sweetheart becoming an honorary member of one after all! It's comforting to know that our beautiful daughter has an accompanying loving and joyful personality. It exudes enthusiasm that it is abundant and contagious.
Hugh and I were most pleased when, five years later Angel became Mrs. David Sims! This loving couple has blessed us with two amazing grandsons, Jonah and Hunter. Eight and twenty years now passed, inspired and led by the grace of our Lord, Angel continues to impress all who have come to know her with incredible works of art in the unique combination of driftwood and crystal suncatchers and windchimes. Mark your calendars for Thursday evenings, 7:00pm Dazzle Live shows where you will see original creations and have a chance to win prizes in the Trivia, Golden Dazzle and Random Comment Awards, along with discount or prizes spinning on our now famous, Wheel Of Dazzle!
